Rain is not a problem to hide

The most beautiful water management is often almost invisible: a slight fall, a planted dip, a permeable path and soil that can take a deep drink.

Start by keeping rain close to where it falls. A downpipe can feed a planted bed, a rain garden or a simple storage tank instead of sending every drop straight away.

Permeable surfaces help too, but only when the base layers are designed properly. The goal is not to add more gravel; it is to give water a route into the ground.

Planting does the final work. Deep roots open the soil, leaves slow the rain and the garden gets a quieter, more resilient relationship with wet weather.
