Under the birch

A new structure around an old tree, with permeable surfaces and a natural boundary.

The old birch became the anchor for a new path and a deep planting border. Water now soaks into the garden instead of pooling at the back door.

Every choice was made for this particular place: the light, the view from the house, the way people move through it and the amount of care it should ask for. The finished garden is designed to settle in, not to look finished on day one.
